Description

Red grapes are in season. They’re everywhere, they’re cheap, and they taste great. And even better as a mocktail.  Simple ingredients, low fuss. Perfect.

All you need are grapes, a lime, and some soda water.
This is a recipe for one person, served in a tumbler.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup grapes
  • 1 tbspn lime juice
  • Top with soda water
  • Extra grapes to garnish

Instructions

  • If using a tumbler, add ice cubes to the bottom of the glass
  • Blend the cup of grapes in a blender
  • Push through a sieve to remove skin and extract all the juice
  • Add lime juice.
  • Top with soda water
  • Stir, and garnish with grapes on a skewer

My first attempt was way too watery. I used a tall glass, with one third juice and two-thirds soda water. It was kind of boring.

The recipe was based on one at http://www.cathyarkle.com/shepaused4thought/fresh-grape-mocktail/.
The recipe there uses 2 cups of grapes for four people, then 1 cup of soda water. As I was only making enough for two, I used 1 cup of grapes, but really shouldn’t have used the tall glasses. Next time I make it I’ll use 3/4 cups of grapes and 1/4 cup of soda per person, and serve it in a cocktail glass.

I ended up blending another half cup of grapes, added extra lime and then tossed the grape skins in too, for extra flavour. You can see how much darker the colour is. If you’re trying to impress, I’d sieve the skins out, but for a home treat, I’d keep them in. That’s where half the healthy bit comes in after all.

With the extra flavour, you won’t be able to stop at just one….
