A variation on the virgin sunrise – that lovely flush of colour after having a good time….
This really is just a virgin sunrise with pineapple juice added.
The following ingredients are for a tumbler glass, but you can easily use a highball glass instead, as long as the orange and pineapple are in equal proportions.
Ingredients
- 15ml grenadine
- 60ml orange juice
- 60ml pineapple juice
- ice
Instructions
- Half fill tumbler glass with ice
- Add orange juice
- Add pineapple juice
- Tilt sideways and slowly pour in grenadine down the side of the glass so that it sinks.
- Garnish with slice of orange and/or pineapple
These are easy ingredients that you can keep in your cupboard all the time, ready for those emergency mocktail get-togethers.
Fill whatever-sized glass you choose, half full with ice cubes.
Then add equal parts orange juice and pineapple juice.
Then hold the glass on the side, and slowly pour in the grenadine down the side.
It will probably leave a trail down the side, but for presentation’s sake, you can turn the glass around. Add a garnish, and there she is.
It’s hard to know what’s the best thing about an Afterglow.
The ice chills the fruit juice nicely.
The grenadine adds the lovely colour, a touch of luxury, that reminds you it’s a special drink.
When you get to the bottom, the grenadine can be quite sweet.
It’s when you decide that you want more, and top up the glass with more juice, that you realise how important it is to add the grenadine last.
Adding the juice afterwards, mixes all the colours together, and you end up with a homogenous colour – pretty, but not as stylish as when it’s first mixed.
